Cristian Perez Needs 27 Seconds to Stop Kyle Nelson in UFC Debut

· UFC Results

Cristian Perez won his UFC debut in 27 seconds. The Mexican lightweight knocked out Kyle Nelson at UFC Edmonton, landing a knee and a left hook before a flurry of punches left the Canadian veteran out and forced the referee to step in.

A debut on short notice

Perez arrived in the UFC on a run of back-to-back knockouts. He earned his contract with a second-round TKO of Logan Paxton on Dana White's Contender Series, and before that he finished Gilberto Santos in the first round. Even so, preparation for this fight was limited: he said in the days before the event that he had learned of the bout only five or six weeks out and had to search YouTube to find footage of his opponent.

Before the fight, the 27-year-old said he believed his style was more explosive than that of a calmer opponent, and that he was aiming for a Performance of the Night bonus rather than a Fight of the Night. The bout ended inside 30 seconds.

I'm much more explosive than he is.

Close to history, but not quite

The finish was not close to the record for the quickest knockout in a UFC debut. That mark stands at seven seconds and is shared by Todd Duffee, who stopped Tim Hague at UFC 102, Ryan Jimmo and Terrance McKinney.

Nelson was trying to rebound from a 24-second TKO loss to McKinney in March. Before that he had beaten Matt Frevola by unanimous decision in October 2025, following a first-round knockout loss to Steve Garcia in 2024. With this result, Nelson has dropped three of his last five fights and been stopped twice within a matter of months.
