Cyborg Beats Paulina Cardona for a Boxing Belt at Home

· Boxing

Cris Cyborg won a professional boxing belt in her home region, beating Colombia's Paulina Cardona for the super welterweight title (up to 69.9 kg) of the International Women's Boxing Association. The fight headlined Nação Cyborg 15 at the Winners Gastronomia venue in Piraquara, in the metropolitan area of Curitiba, where Cyborg is from.

With the win, the Brazilian became the first athlete to hold belts in two different disciplines at the same time. She is also the PFL champion in MMA. The bout was her eighth in boxing, and she remains undefeated in the sport.

A boxing career since 2022

A preview of the card said Cyborg has boxed professionally since 2022 and had five wins on her official record, plus two exhibition bouts that were not counted as professional fights. In MMA she has won belts in Strikeforce, Invicta, UFC, Bellator and the PFL. The event itself was for friends and guests of the fighter.

Plans for the end of her career

Cyborg is 40. She has said that 2026 should be her last year of competition and that she wants to begin a new phase outside the ring and the cage. She has a long-held dream of becoming a veterinarian, and said she believes she will start college next year. "It is a dream that I want to achieve," she said. Even so, the report notes that she is still expected to step into the cage one more time before she ends her career.

An offer to Shields

Right after the win, Cyborg turned to social media and challenged American Claressa Shields, an Olympic gold medalist and one of the biggest stars of women's boxing, with a seven-figure purse. "I'm willing to offer you $2 million for the fight... but the fight has to happen before the end of the year... you say you're the GWOAT... if you don't accept, that acronym means GOOFIEST WOMAN OF ALL TIME," she wrote.
