Froch Backs Trump Walking Fury to the Ring Against Joshua

· Boxing

Carl Froch thinks it would be a massive move if US President Donald Trump walked Tyson Fury to the ring for the fight with Anthony Joshua. He also says the chances of it happening are slim to none.

Fury and Joshua are due to fight in the early hours of December 12 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. Netflix will broadcast the all-British bout, and it could start as late as 2am to suit US audiences. For a while the fight looked set for Madison Square Garden in New York, but Joshua refused and the fight ended up in the UK.

Fury's offer

Fury has asked Trump to take part in his ring walk. "I'll definitely make that offer to my old buddy and we'll see if he's available," Fury said. "But it's probably unlikely because of the situation he's in at the moment, being the President of the United States."

Before the official announcement, Fury flew to Washington, DC, and ran into Trump during the trip. He appeared at the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House in June, his first visit to the US in five years. Fury had previously been banned from entering the country, and Trump used his position to grant him a visa. Fury told The Ring that it all went through Dana White and landed on Trump's table, and that Trump simply approved it.

Froch on the logistics

Froch, speaking to BetVictor Online Casino, said Trump has a massive schedule. He pointed out that Trump is often seen at UFC events with White, but that is in America. The cost and security demands of a trip to Cardiff would be huge, Froch said.

If Trump does come, Froch expects it to happen at the last minute, with the president turning up without anybody knowing. Should it happen, Froch said, it would be great and would add to the event.
