Gustavo Trujillo Stops Haynesworth to Stay Unbeaten at Heavyweight

· Boxing

Gustavo Trujillo remains unbeaten as a professional boxer. The Cuban heavyweight, known as "The Cuban Assassin," stopped Donald Haynesworth in two rounds at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, on October 18, moving to 13-0 with 12 knockouts.

Trujillo, who entered the bout ranked No. 13 by the WBO, ended the fight in the second round with a right hand. Haynesworth came in with 19 wins and 17 knockouts but also ten losses, and his record now reads 19-11-1. After the win, Trujillo said he respected his opponent for taking the fight and stressed that he is on a mission to become heavyweight champion of the world.

Boxing and bare-knuckle record

Trujillo also competes in bare-knuckle boxing, where he is unbeaten at 9-0 with nine knockouts and holds the BKB heavyweight world championship. His last defence there came in August in Miami against former champion Mick Terrill, ended by a second-round body shot to the liver. Tyson Fury, who had come to support the British fighter, entered the ring afterwards to put the belt around Trujillo's waist.

Across professional boxing and BKB, Trujillo now has 21 knockouts from 22 wins. His stated ambition is to become Cuba's first heavyweight world champion, something that eluded Luis Ortiz, who twice challenged Deontay Wilder for the WBC title without success.

Looking for a step up

Trujillo remains a promotional free agent, and his manager Abe Swidan of Visionary Sports Group believes he is ready for a significant rise in competition. "Being ranked #13 by the WBO is an important step, but we're looking well beyond that," Swidan said, outlining a plan to move him through the rankings and toward a title opportunity. Trujillo says he feels stronger and more confident with every fight. Trujillo said he believes he can compete with anyone in the world and that his team has a plan to get him a title shot.
