Holloway Backs Volkanovski by Decision Against Undefeated Evloev
Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway has picked Alexander Volkanovski to beat Movsar Evloev in the UFC 333 main event. Volkanovski defends his featherweight title against the undefeated challenger, and oddsmakers have the fight as a pick'em. Holloway, who fought Volkanovski three times, says the champion is getting overlooked.
He gave his pick on his YouTube channel. Holloway sees a great matchup for Volkanovski, whose biggest concern lately, in his words, is taking damage.
"I like Evloev a lot. I know a lot of people keep talking about Movsar's wrestling. It just blows my mind."
Holloway pointed to Volkanovski's two fights with Islam, which he said people tend to remember only for the second one. In those fights, he said, Volkanovski was wrestling with one of the best 155-pound wrestlers in the world. Evloev is 20-0, and Holloway called him a beast, but said Volkanovski is "just a different animal."
A decision for Volkanovski
Betting markets see little between the two. With the fight one sleep away, the line sits at about -110 at most sportsbooks, and the money is split almost 50/50. Holloway does not see it that way.
Holloway expects the champion to keep the fight standing and to be the more active and better striker. "I think he goes out there and lands a lot for 25 minutes. He gets his hand raised in a decision," he said, adding that he thinks it will be a fan-friendly fight. "I think you guys have to put a little bit more respect on Volkanovski's name. It's going to be a great one."
A win at UFC 333 would lift Volkanovski to 29-4 and give him a record nine UFC featherweight title wins.
