Jarred Brooks Meets Tatsumitsu Wada at ONE SAMURAI 5 in Tokyo

ONE SAMURAI 5 has two new mixed martial arts bouts. The card returns to EBARA WAVE Arena Ota in Tokyo on Wednesday, November 18, and now features former ONE strawweight MMA world champion Jarred Brooks against Japanese veteran Tatsumitsu Wada, plus an all-Japanese heavyweight fight between Ryugo Takeuchi and Brandon Hashimoto. The event is headlined by a strawweight MMA title fight between champion Joshua Pacio and challenger Keito Yamakita.

Brooks back at strawweight

Brooks joined ONE in 2021 and used wrestling, pressure and submissions to beat Lito Adiwang, Hiroba Minowa and Bokang Masunyane before beating Pacio over five rounds at ONE 164 in December 2022 to win the undisputed title. He lost the belt back to Pacio by disqualification after an illegal slam in their 2024 rematch, then submitted Gustavo Balart in the first round to claim the interim crown while Pacio was injured.

He then lost three fights in a row. Brooks lost a split decision at flyweight in December 2024, was stopped by Pacio in the second round of their trilogy two months later, and lost to Mansur Malachiev by north-south choke after another move up to flyweight last October. He now returns to the 125-pound strawweight class, the division in which he held the title.

Wada is a former DEEP flyweight champion who has competed in ONE since 2018. He reached the semifinals of the 2019 flyweight MMA grand prix after beating Balart and then took Demetrious Johnson the distance. He returned to winning ways at ONE SAMURAI 1 in April with a split decision over Seiichiro Ito, the 27th win of his career, and now drops to strawweight to face a former champion.

All-Japanese heavyweight bout

Takeuchi, a 23-year-old second-degree judo black belt from King Gym Kobe, has one ONE win, a 98-second stoppage of Kang Ji Won in 2025, and has not won since. Hashimoto, 28, carries an 8-2 record, with most of his wins by knockout, and will be making his promotional debut.
