Kavanagh Needs One Uppercut to Stop Temirov at UFC 333
Lone'er Kavanagh stopped Ramazan Temirov in the first round at UFC 333 on Saturday night. The finish came at 4:28, after Kavanagh landed one uppercut that changed the fight.
Temirov started fast. He opened with a spinning back kick to the body and followed with heavy shots to the head, and he kept throwing combinations, overhands and left hooks through the round. He also tried a spinning heel kick. Kavanagh moved his head, and most of the flurries landed on air, though Temirov did connect with a right hand followed by a left hook.
Kavanagh took a patient route. He worked a teep kick and jab to the body, attacked the lead leg and slipped away from the looping overhands. His own offense was limited in the early minutes, and he appeared content to wait for the right moment instead of taking chances.
Temirov's pressure still counted for something. His aggression kept Kavanagh from getting comfortable, and early on Kavanagh answered a missed right hand to the legs with a leg kick of his own. Temirov kept coming with jabs between the flurries.
Some of Temirov's overhands and left hooks did find their target.
The finish
That moment arrived late in the round. Temirov was loading up on his overhands and left hooks when Kavanagh caught him with an uppercut. A combination followed, and Temirov went down.
Kavanagh followed Temirov to the canvas right away and kept landing strikes until the referee stepped in to stop it.
Official result: Lone'er Kavanagh def. Ramazan Temirov by TKO in round one, 4:28.
