Liz Carmouche Shaves Her Head to Make Weight for PFL Title Fight
Liz Carmouche shaved her head to make championship weight in Chicago. The veteran posted a video on Instagram showing her head being shaved on Thursday, and the haircut turned out to be the final step that made her title fight official. The bout was set for Friday at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois, a day after the haircut.
Down to the last fraction of a pound
Carmouche was booked to face Jena Bishop for the inaugural PFL women's flyweight title, with Dakota Ditcheva sidelined by injury. In the caption of her video, Carmouche explained that this camp had brought both easy and hard moments in the weight cut, and that with 0.2 pounds still left to lose, the hair had to go.
She wrote that it is just hair before turning her attention to rehydrating for fight night. The clip shows the clippers doing their work until her head is shaved.
Before this, Carmouche had missed weight only once in her MMA career. She went 29 fights without missing weight in MMA until she came in one pound over for her PFL bout with Taila Santos in August 2024. The haircut kept her from adding a second miss in eight PFL fights.
Her record and the title bout
Carmouche challenged for UFC titles in two different divisions and later became a long-reigning champion under the Bellator banner. In the PFL she won the 2025 women's flyweight tournament, knocking out Bishop in the third round in Charlotte that August. In Chicago the two met again, this time with a title at stake. At 42, she was looking to become the promotion's first 125-pound champion.
