Malott Leads Four Performance Bonus Winners at UFC Edmonton
UFC Edmonton produced 12 finishes in 13 fights. After Saturday's Fight Night card at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, the UFC did not name a Fight of the Night and instead awarded four Performance of the Night bonuses of $100,000 each.
The headliner tops the list
Main event winner Mike Malott was among them. Facing Joaquin Buckley, a contender with considerably more experience in the UFC, the Canadian threw a few head kicks early that Buckley seemed to block without trouble. Then came a strike aimed a little lower, a knee that may have begun as a kick, which caught Buckley flush as he stepped in and ducked slightly. His mouthpiece flew out and he fell to the canvas. Malott landed one more punch before the referee stepped in, but the knee had already decided the fight.
Along with the $100,000, the win is expected to carry Malott into the welterweight top 10.
Three more performance awards
The other three $100,000 bonuses went to heavyweight newcomer Joel Faglier, TriStar product Mandel Nallo and Canadian middleweight Marc-Andre Barriault, all of whom won by stoppage on the night.
The only bout to reach the judges was the women's flyweight co-main event between Jasmine Jasudavicius and Erin Blanchfield. That meant every other winner on the card had a finish to their name, and the eight stoppage winners who missed out on the top awards each pocketed a $25,000 bonus for ending their fights early. In total, 12 fighters on the card received bonus money: four $100,000 Performance of the Night awards and eight $25,000 finishing bonuses.
