Norman Eyes Abel Ramos on the Haney-Paro Card in December

· Previews and Predictions

Brian Norman Jr. is lined up to fight Abel Ramos on the December 19 card that features Devin Haney against Liam Paro. Boxing journalist Dan Rafael reports that Top Rank is planning the matchup. The event is expected to take place in San Francisco.

Nothing has been officially announced. Rafael describes Norman vs. Ramos as a planned bout, not a signed one.

It would be the 25-year-old Norman's second fight since he gave up the WBO welterweight title to Haney by decision in Riyadh last November. Haney now heads the December card in a reported title unification against Paro, so Norman would return on the undercard of the man who beat him.

Who is Ramos

Ramos is 35 and carries a record of 29-6-3 with 22 knockouts. In February he beat the previously unbeaten Tahmir Smalls by split decision, handing him his first loss. Smalls had been presented as the rising fighter in that matchup.

The report describes Ramos as a veteran who can pressure an opponent, take punishment and keep working. Norman, by comparison, has already held a world title and has the power to hurt Ramos. According to the report, the danger for him is getting pulled into close-range exchanges and spending too much time looking for one big punch. If rounds slip away while he waits for a knockout, the scorecards could become uncomfortable.

The rest of the card

Top Rank also plans to feature welterweights Tiger Johnson and Rohan Polanco on the December 19 show, Rafael reports.

Haney would be fighting for two belts that night, while Norman faces a hard veteran to keep his own title hopes moving.
