Maria Henderson, wife of former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson, scored a 40-second submission of Collette Santiago in their flyweight amateur bout, kicking off Bellator 268 Saturday night at Footprint Center.
The fight was just Henderson’s second and pushed her amateur record to 2-0.
“It couldn’t have gone any better, really was like jiu-jitsu textbook 101,” Maria told reporters after the fight. “Headlock, hand off the neck, sit back so they can’t throw you over, hook in, go to the neck, punch the face, finish choke.”
The night did not go so well for Benson, who dropped a unanimous decision to former Bellator lightweight champion Brent Primus and now has lost three times in a row for the first time.
In the main event, Vadim Nemkov defeated Julius Anglickas via submission (kimura) at 4:25 of Round 4 to defend his light heavyweight championship.
With the win, Nemkov advances to the $1 million grand prix final where he will face Corey Anderson, who defeated Chandler’s Ryan Bader by 51-second TKO earlier Saturday.
