Tsarukyan Steps on Danis After a 10-0 Tech Fall at RAF 14
Arman Tsarukyan won the RAF 14 main event over Dillon Danis by technical superiority, 10-0, before the first period was over. Right after the final point he stepped on Danis as the other man was getting up off the mat.
The step looked like the start of a brawl. Security was ready, though. Staff flooded the mats and kept the two apart, and nothing more happened. RAF had reason to be on high alert on Friday night: a day earlier Tsarukyan had attacked Danis at the pre-event press conference.
How the match went
Tsarukyan barely broke a sweat. He scored through takedowns and turns and piled up points quickly, and the match was over in the first period.
He seemingly slapped Danis to open the match, then scored with a push out. The referee issued a quick warning. A takedown brought another two points before a restart on the feet.
One more step out put Tsarukyan up four, and another takedown led to a quick series of points. By the time the points stopped, the score stood at 10-0 and the match was ended by technical superiority.
Security kept the two athletes separated, and Danis kept his cool and did not retaliate. Despite the contentious ending, he stood and shook Tsarukyan's hand afterwards.
What Tsarukyan said afterwards
Tsarukyan, the top ranked UFC lightweight contender, does not consider the rivalry settled. "No it's over if we fight together," he said. He added that he is wrestling back to back against high-level grapplers and asked people to come to Abu Dhabi to support him.
His next match is in three weeks in Abu Dhabi. He is also holding out hope that his next fight comes against UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje.
