UFC Edmonton Prelims: Boser, Cerminara and a Wave of Submissions
The headliners at UFC Edmonton took place on October 17 at Rogers Place, and nearly every preliminary bout also ended inside the distance. Five of the winners below finished their opponents by submission.
Boser gets Canada on the board
In the heavyweight featured prelim, Tanner Boser gave the home crowd its first win of the night. He controlled Jhonata Diniz with grappling and ground-and-pound and finally got the stoppage late in the third round, when referee Jason Herzog stepped in to wave it off.
On the main card, bantamweight Timmy Cuamba controlled Louis Jourdain on the mat before submitting him in the second round. It was his third win inside the Octagon.
Submissions and a comeback knockout
- Middleweight Nick Galanti needed only the first round against Julien Leblanc. He shot a takedown immediately, took the back and forced the tap with a face crank to earn his first UFC victory.
- Katlyn Cerminara returned from a two-year layoff after the birth of her first child and stopped Mackenzie Stiller in the first round with a head kick and punches, the first finish of her UFC career.
- Bantamweight Steven Koslow, back after four years away, choked out Canadian Chad Anheliger with a rear-naked choke with seconds left in the third round.
- Chelsea Chandler took Melissa Croden down and won their women's bantamweight bout with a kimura.
- SuYoung Yoo opened the card by controlling Cody Chovancek on the ground before finishing him with a kimura late in the third round.
Only one fight on the night, the women's flyweight co-main event, went to the judges. Heavyweight Joel Faglier was knocked down twice by Javad Mahjoub in the opening round before stopping him in the second.
