Bonfim Breaks Silence After Brady Exits UFC Vegas 124
Gabriel Bonfim has spoken for the first time since Sean Brady withdrew from their main event at UFC Vegas 124. Brady pulled out earlier this week because of an injury. The card is set for the Apex next weekend.
It is the third consecutive main event booking for Bonfim that has fallen apart. This one collapsed just days before the event.
What Bonfim said
Bonfim reacted in an Instagram post. He opened by confirming the news.
"As some of you already know, my fight was canceled. Sean Brady is out of the fight. He says he got injured. A week before the fight, he tells us he got injured. You can't really understand it, right? But God knows all things and we keep moving forward. And on Nov. 7th I won't be fighting, unfortunately."
He went on to say he expects news soon. "Unfortunately, I won't be fighting. But I believe there will be news coming soon and we keep going," Bonfim continued. "The goal is just one: to be champion, and we keep pushing. Thanks, thanks everyone, appreciate it."
Bonfim stayed puzzled even after Brady revealed how severe his injury was.
What happens next
It is unclear whether Bonfim vs. Brady will be rescheduled for a later date. It is also unclear whether Bonfim will face another opponent while Brady is out.
Bonfim is on a five-fight winning streak. He could be one fight away from a title shot. His most recent win came in June against former titleholder Belal Muhammad.
Brady has not fought since he beat Joaquin Buckley by unanimous decision at UFC 328 earlier this year.
The welterweight title picture keeps moving while Islam Makhachev is absent. Bonfim and Brady were both expected to make statements in their next fights.
