Moicano Plans to Leave MMA After Three More UFC Fights

· Retirements & Legends

Renato Moicano says his MMA career has a set end point: the last three fights of his UFC contract. After that, he has no plans to keep going.

The three-fight limit

Moicano, 37, told The Ariel Helwani Show that he does not want to fight MMA once his UFC deal is done. His words: "I want to finish my contract, and once I finish my contract, I don't want to fight MMA anymore."

He used Tony Ferguson as the example to avoid. Moicano described Ferguson as a 40-year-old on a six-fight losing streak who was still trying to become champion, and said he does not want that. Fighters, he said, have to realize when they are done and how much gas and love for the sport they have left. For him it comes down to these three fights.

He also took a dig at UFC pay. He said he is done after these three because the promotion is not going to pay him enough.

Influencer boxing next

Moicano wants to box in the influencer scene once MMA is behind him. In his words, he wants "to beat up people that don't know how to fight."

The loss behind the interview

The comments came after Moicano lost to Tom Nolan at UFC Vegas 123, knocked out in the third round at the Meta Apex. He had won the first round and was on his way to winning the second.

In round two he had taken Nolan's back and was working for a submission. Referee Dan Miragliotta then stood both fighters up. Fans and the wider MMA community have not forgiven the referee.

Moicano says he has moved on and is focused on improving in his future fights.

Our View

With a stated limit of three bouts, every matchup carries more weight for him. By his own account he does not want a long losing run at the end.

What is unclear is who the three opponents will be and when he returns. The report gives neither, and his pay remark leaves open how the contract itself will play out.
