Cormier Wants Miragliotta Pulled From Upcoming UFC Shows

· UFC Results ·

Daniel Cormier thinks a referee should pay a price for one decision in a UFC main event. He wants Dan Miragliotta kept off two upcoming UFC cards.

Cormier's demand

Cormier was on color commentary for the UFC Vegas 123 headliner. He used his YouTube channel to call for Miragliotta to be punished for his decision-making.

He said the mistake so clearly led to the change in the outcome that a penalty is needed. Everyone else is held accountable for their actions, he argued, and he stressed that he was not attacking anyone personally.

"Nobody should be above that, officials included," Cormier said.

The two shows he named

"Dan Miragliotta needs a reset," Cormier said. He named a show this weekend at the Apex and the New York City card, UFC 334, where the heavyweight title will be on the line. In his view, Miragliotta should not work either.

The stand-up in Vegas

The call came after Tom Nolan's TKO finish over Renato Moicano. Moicano had control of his opponent's back and was seeking a rear-naked choke.

A stand-up is when a referee halts action on the ground and restarts both fighters on their feet. Miragliotta decided to do that here.

Moments later, Nolan capitalized and scored a win that earned a bonus. Many have criticized the call, arguing it changed the result of a UFC main event.

How commissions usually react

Commissions rarely act on referee errors until complaints keep building. Herb Dean has drawn perhaps the most scrutiny among officials lately, and there is no sign of any meaningful consequences for him.

Whether the same will hold for Miragliotta is not yet known.

Our View

Cormier's request is checkable because it names two events. If Miragliotta works either card, assignments went on as before. If he is absent, the criticism may have been heard, though nothing here shows the UFC or the commissions have responded.
