Ruotolo: I Asked for Christian Lee Before I Fought Adrian

· PFL, ONE and More ·

Tye Ruotolo has only two MMA fights, and he is about to fight for a world title. He says that is no gift: he asked for the Christian Lee fight long before anyone thought he deserved it.

The champion he faces

Christian Lee won ONE's MMA world title in 2019 as its youngest male champion, then took welterweight gold in 2022. Seventeen of his 18 victories came inside the distance.

Lee tops the promotion's record lists in wins, finishes and first-round stoppages.

The call-out came first

Ruotolo says he had the older Lee brother in his sights before the Adrian fight. "I called out Christian, and I was confident that I had the ability to beat him," he said.

He admits his MMA is still developing. "I'm still young in my career," he said. When the chance to fight Adrian came, he says, he used it to prove his skills. He also said he has never asked for a fight he did not think he could win.

Two MMA fights, one grappling belt

Ruotolo is 23 and holds the ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling World Championship. He is 9-0 in ONE grappling and has defended the belt three times, most recently against Pawel Jaworski.

In MMA, he submitted Adrian Lee in September 2025. Two months later, he submitted Shozo Isojima. Each win earned him a US$50,000 bonus.

Friday in Bangkok

Ruotolo challenges Lee for the ONE Lightweight MMA World Title. The bout headlines The Inner Circle 37 on Friday, November 6, at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok. It streams live in Asia in primetime.

Ruotolo expects to walk out of Bangkok as champion. He calls the fight a war, and says he does not expect it to be easy. He also says he believes in himself and would not have asked for the match without the skills and the heart for it.

Our View

The record gap is the obvious story: two MMA fights against a champion with 18 wins. Ruotolo's argument is that he asked for the fight early and would not ask for one he could not win. The first rounds should show whether his MMA has caught up with that claim, and whether Lee's finishing record gives him room to end it early.
