Cortes-Acosta Says Walker's Chin Will Decide UFC Vegas 124

· Previews and Predictions ·

Johnny Walker has one heavyweight fight on his record, and Waldo Cortes-Acosta does not rate it. Ahead of their UFC Vegas 124 main event, Cortes-Acosta says the fight ends in a knockout and that Walker's chin is the reason.

A 1-0 heavyweight with a knockout win

Walker enters the cage at heavyweight with a 1-0 record there and a knockout of Mick Parkin. Cortes-Acosta waves that off. He says Walker is trying to be better at heavyweight because he did nothing at light heavyweight, where opponents kept knocking him out.

His line was blunt: "He doesn't have a chin. It's like a doorbell; it's easy to hit it."

He added that Walker sees heavyweight as a better path to a title shot. First, he said, Walker has to pass him and a lot of real heavyweights.

Where Cortes-Acosta stands

Cortes-Acosta is 17-4 overall and 10-4 in the UFC. Wins over Derrick Lewis, Serghei Spivac and Andrei Arlovski are on his résumé. His last two fights went the other way, both on the scorecards: Curtis Blaydes most recently, and before that Alexander Volkov.

A knockout would push him toward title contention. The Parkin result is the reason that outcome may be harder than he expects.

Short notice and the betting line

The fight came together on short notice. Cortes-Acosta is a -265 favorite on FanDuel, and Walker is +200. At media day Cortes-Acosta said he does not need to measure anybody. He plans to go after Walker and break his head, and he says his own chin is like metal. He also says that if he moves his feet, his punches will put Walker to sleep.
