Cejudo Wants UFC to Cut McGregor Loose Before His Last Fight

· Fighter Talk ·

Henry Cejudo thinks the UFC should let Conor McGregor walk. His case is about money rather than fighting ability, and it comes after McGregor's knee surgery.

Paying for what a fighter is worth

Cejudo made his remarks on the "Pound 4 Pound Podcast". He does not believe anything McGregor is saying. He still calls McGregor a draw, and says the question now is how much the UFC thinks he is worth.

"I can even see the UFC just letting him go based on what he got paid," Cejudo said. In his telling, the promotion could tell McGregor that one fight left is not worth the price and that he is a free agent.

The money and the Paramount deal

Cejudo said that as a businessman who wanted to keep a lot of his money, he would cut McGregor. He pointed to a payout of 30 million that the UFC would otherwise owe him.

He also pointed to the promotion's Paramount deal. Paramount, he said, has to make its money.

"Let him be a free agent. Let him make more money elsewhere," Cejudo said, adding that McGregor should not take money from the UFC.

The injury behind the debate

McGregor came back at UFC 329 in July for a rematch with Max Holloway. His knee gave out quickly and the fight was stopped just past the one-minute mark.

He ended up with ACL and meniscus injuries and had surgery. His UFC contract has one fight left, and he wants to use it in 2027.

A release and a third Holloway fight

McGregor has insisted that his comeback fight must be a third meeting with Holloway. Holloway has not been booked since that ending.

Cejudo says a release is likely under consideration at the UFC.
